Top B&B in Essaouira
A new flight connection links London with Essaouira. Feasible short stay getaway.
Summary of the article of The Guardian published beginning of May 2015
Essaouira, seaside city, offers a wide range of touristic attractions: ancient ramparts, delicious seafood and bohemian atmosphere. And thanks to a new EasyJet flight, it is now an ideal destination for the weekend! Some sea resorts are specialists of designers' bikinis and suntanned legs. The city of Essaouira is not like that. We rather find on-the-spot hair whipped by the wind, sun-burnt noses and sweatshirts over a pair of shorts. Contrary to Agadir in the South, where large hotels with all-included formula align themselves along a sheltered beach, Essaouira has regular Alizés winds, mainly during spring and summer. It means that apart from the winter surfing, the zone offers almost perfect conditions from April till August for windsurfing and kitesurfing. The combination of the possible sports and all the touristic attractions in Essaouira, Unesco-listed town, makes a charming destination for short breaks. But, until now, it involves a journey of three-hour drive from Marrakesh or Agadir. However, from May 2015, the Easy Jet flights, twice a week from London-Luton, start at 83£ return. Also, in May or June, according to years, the city welcomes one of the biggest world musical events, the festival Gnaoua and Musics of the World, with jazz, pop and rock, as well as with the traditional sub-Saharan music Gnaoua. The big difference with other festivals is the free access to concerts.
Dar Liouba selected # 1 of the top 10 of riads and B&B in Essaouira
In a narrow alley in the heart of the old city, an impressive wooden door leads in a particularly airy and bathed with light open space. A spiral staircase serves eight rooms on three levels. Rooms are decorated with white walls and each of them benefits from a variant of colors on the accessories which give their name to these rooms. Some steps higher, you reach the terrace, with a panoramic view on the medina. The menu of the breakfasts - served in the elegant lounge of the ground floor or on the terrace - change according to the seasons, but there is always an orange or mandarin juice, fresh bread, home-made jams and cakes. At your disposal also, the very pleasant staff, to answer all the questions you may have.
